Jeanie Marie Buss is an American businesswoman. The current president is and the controlling owner for the Los Angeles Lakers National Basketball Association. Buss is a native of California and grew up as part of a wealthy family. Her father Jerry Buss was a real-estate tycoon who later became the manager of the Lakers and other sports businesses. When her parents broke up in 1972, she was convinced that they had abandoned her. In 1972, at age 19 she started working within the family's company. She later set up an organization called the Los Angeles Blades professional roller hockey team. She served as the head of the Great Western Forum before assuming the duties of the vice president for the Lakers. Her father died in 2013 and his controlling control of the Lakers was inherited by Buss and her five siblings via a trust for the family that gave each sibling the same vote. Buss assumed the role of president of Los Angeles Lakers. Buss is also the co-owner of Women of Wrestling, a professional organization that has its the headquarters located at Los Angeles.
